Surah An-Nur (24:31)
وَقُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِنَّ وَيَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوجَهُنَّ
— Surah An-Nur, Ayah 31
English Translation
"And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts."
Explanation & Connection to Overcoming Harmful Habits
This command follows the one given to men, making it clear that guarding the gaze and chastity is a universal obligation in Islam, not limited by gender. Many Muslim women also struggle silently with harmful content, and this verse affirms that the struggle is recognized and the guidance applies equally. The parallel structure of these two verses shows that Allah addresses both men and women with the same compassion and the same expectation. If you are a woman dealing with this struggle, know that you are not alone and that Allah's guidance encompasses you fully.
