Surah Yusuf (12:24)

— Surah Yusuf, Ayah 24

English Translation

"And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her had he not seen the proof of his Lord. And thus [it was] that We should avert from him evil and immorality. Indeed, he was of Our chosen servants."

Explanation & Connection to Overcoming Harmful Habits

Prophet Yusuf (AS) was young, handsome, alone, and faced with direct temptation from a beautiful woman of power. He had every worldly reason to give in. But he saw the 'proof of his Lord' — a spiritual awareness that transcended the moment of desire. This verse teaches us that even prophets experienced the pull of desire; what distinguished Yusuf was not the absence of temptation but his response to it. Allah then declares that He diverted evil from Yusuf because he was sincere. Your sincerity in wanting to quit — the fact that you are reading this right now — is itself a sign that Allah is diverting evil from you.
