Sayyid al-Istighfar — The Master Supplication for Forgiveness

Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6306

Transliteration

English Translation

"O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant. I uphold Your covenant and Your promise as best I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge Your blessings upon me, and I acknowledge my sin. So forgive me, for none forgives sins but You."

When to Recite This Dua

The Prophet (peace be upon him) called this the master of all supplications for forgiveness. He said whoever recites it with conviction in the day and dies that evening will be among the people of Paradise. For someone struggling with repeated sins, this dua is a lifeline — it combines acknowledgment of Allah's lordship, gratitude, admission of sin, and a plea for forgiveness.
