Surah Al-Baqarah (2:153)
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ
— Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 153
English Translation
"O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient."
Explanation & Connection to Overcoming Harmful Habits
When the urge strikes, Allah gives you two weapons: sabr (patience) and salah (prayer). Patience is not passive waiting — it is active resistance, choosing discomfort now for wellbeing later. And prayer is your direct line to Allah, the source of all strength. The verse ends with a promise: Allah is WITH the patient. Not watching from afar, not merely aware — with them. In your hardest moments of resisting temptation, when every fiber of your body wants to give in, Allah is with you in that struggle. That awareness can transform the moment of temptation from a moment of weakness into a moment of profound closeness to your Creator.
