Surah Az-Zumar (39:53)

— Surah Az-Zumar, Ayah 53

English Translation

"Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'"

Explanation & Connection to Overcoming Harmful Habits

This is perhaps the most hope-giving verse in the entire Quran. Allah addresses those who have 'transgressed against themselves' — not those who have sinned a little, but those who have gone to excess. And to them He says: do not despair. The word 'jamee'an' (all) is emphatic — ALL sins are forgivable. If you have relapsed dozens or hundreds of times, this verse is speaking directly to you. Despair itself is a trap of Shaytan; he wants you to believe you are beyond saving. Allah is telling you the opposite. Every single time you turn back to Him, He is ready to forgive. This is not a one-time offer — it is the permanent nature of your Lord.
